How to Quit Drinking Liquor

Many alcoholics know WHY they must quit the bad habit. What they truly don't know is HOW to do it. Its possible that you have lost a lot of jobs and have legal problems. Its either you were dumped by your partner or abandoned by family members because of how you have been acting. All reasons why you need to look at your drinking and seriously consider quitting.



Alcoholics usually know that they have to give up the bad habit. Most 'normal' individuals do not just wake up and say, "I think I should quit drinking." Many individuals who drink heavily know deep down inside that they have a problem.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were a Magic Pill that made you stop drinking? You could also be hypnotized to lessen or even eliminate your need for alcohol. A time machine could also work as you could go back to when you really started drinking alcohol.

The fact of the matter is there is no quick and simple way. First, you must learn how to live your life with no alcohol. Some people would crave for liquor and this could be a lengthy and painful time. Therefore being prepared with coping tools and methods is essential for long term success. . Others will just experience minor physical discomfort. A lot of alcoholics have attempted to stop once or twice in their lives. But the physical cravings could last for years. In order to succeed, you must get used to living a life with no alcohol. For every one thousand alcoholics, only one stays sober for at least 2 years. If you are strong enough then you can be that ONE.

Yes, most individuals would fail if they do not give up drinking in a careful, methodical way.

First, you have to convince yourself that you must quit drinking.

It could help if you write down all of the reasons you could think of to quit drinking alcohol. Write down every reason you could think of. This includes those humiliating moments and the people whom you have hurt physically as well as emotionally. Keep it and make sure to read it when you feel like giving up the goal of quitting drinking alcohol.

If you need more convincing then think of the money you could save if you stop going to pubs and purchasing alcohol. With the legal fees, you could bring home your entire income. Check your credit card statements and your budget; do not just invent numbers. Try to figure out how much alcohol is costing you not just mentally, physically, relationally but financially.

If you want to succeed and fully recover, you need to be really honest to yourself and accept the reality. When you are ready, it's time to commit to quitting.

Get to a Physician

The damage done to your body is something only a physician can evaluate. A physician can also give advice as to how to give up drinking. You may require hospitalization and medical supervision, or you might be able to go it by yourself.

Telling People You Trust Could be Helpful

Another great way to give up drinking is to tell trusted people that would understand that you are going to quit drinking and you may need their support. If you need help, these people will be there for you.

Find Meetings

If you want to be with people who have experienced what you are experiencing then the 12 Step Meetings is the place to go to. Start by looking for 12 Step Meetings around your neighborhood. Various kinds of people with various kinds of problems go to different kinds of meetings. Attend a lot of meetings all around your area; in fact, you should attend ninety meetings in 90 days. You will learn more about quitting in these meetings than anywhere else.

If you have reached this point then that is something to be really proud of. Just continue to be strong and control the cravings...live a life without liquor in your system.
