Need More Storage Space At Home For Your Stuff?

By Lani Hudson

With the many things that you've accumulated over the years along with the personal belongings of everyone else in your household, you are now in dire need of extra space in your home. But the problem is that you do not have the time and money yet for a renovation. Thanks to these simple, practical solutions, you can enjoy a more organized, cozy home without having to spend a lot.

Look around your home to spot any space or area that can serve as additional storage for your things. There might be a blank wall in the lounge room where you can install open shelves for items that are worth displaying like souvenirs from your previous travels and the best family pictures that you have. Invest in boxes that come with lids where you can tidily organize photos and small knick knacks so they won't clutter the tops of tables or kitchen counters.

Opt for double duty furniture as a way to enjoy more floor space. Should you have visitors who frequently sleep overnight and you do not have a guest room, you might be better off with a day bed or a sofa bed rather than a regular couch in the living room. In the bedroom, a study table can also be a vanity table when fitted with a mirror. Another trick is to use a glass-top dining or coffee table if you want to make the space look bigger.

Gather all your things and decide which you want to keep, throw, and give away or put up for sale. You can hold a yard sale for your neighbors and friends who might find something that you do not want to use or keep anymore. Include here used clothes, shoes, dinner ware, busted appliances or musical instruments, or your kids' outgrown toys and books. The fun part here is earning money while freeing up and enjoying additional space at home. Don't forget to schedule the sale on a weekend when most people are not at work or in school.

For things that you just cannot give up easily but can't be accommodated in your home due to limited space available, self storage facilities can be your best bet. Think of these storage space solutions as the extension of your home where you can keep important things that you do not use too often. Examples are seasonal home decorations, special-occasion clothes, or any item that holds a sentimental value to you and your family.
