An Explanation Of The Foreshadowing Of Christ

By Mark Thompson

The gospel books that comprise the bible explain the life of the foretold Messiah. Different aspects which happened in the Old Testament explains the life of the Messiah. This means that the coming of Christ was known to happen even during the creation of the earth. The following are biblical aspects that explain the foreshadowing of Christ.

The story of Abel and Cain. This marks the first event that explains what would happen to Jesus. Abel was a shepherd just as Christ is explained and used to please God with his sacrifices. His offering is documented as a fragrance which is similar to the description given about Jesus as a perfect sacrifice. Moreover, his death at the hands of Cain implies the death that Jesus would face.

Abraham attempt to sacrifice to his son. The event of Abraham and Isaac has a perfect relationship with the agony of Jesus before He was crucified. Isaac carrying firewood for the unknown sacrifice is an indication of the time that Christ carried His own cross to be crucified. Also, it took three days to for God to provide an alternative sacrifice which implies the three days that Jesus took to raise from the dead.

Similarities in the birth of Jesus. Both Jacob and David were promised by God that a great kind would be born from their lineage. Jesus is among their genealogy making this statement an explanation of his birth. Also, prophets like Isiah and Micah had prophesied the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

Forecast of Jesus ministry. The ministry of Jesus is also foretold in the Old Testament. Every burnt sacrifice made during the Old Testament was not supposed to have any blemish and could be taken among goats and sheep. This aspect is documented in Hebrews where it explains that Christ lived a sinless life. Other facets which prefigure Jesus include teaching in parables, becoming the perfect sacrifice and other traits.

The story of Moses and the bronze snake. The Israelite were attacked by snakes due to the wrath of God due to their wickedness. Even so, He instructed Moses to make a bronze snake and hang it at a place where every bitten member could look at to become healed. This implies that Christ adopted our sinful nature which is symbolized by the snake. At the same time, He is the redeemer of our sins hence the use of a bronze snake for healing.

The event of David and king Darrius. The Israelite were in captive of the Babylonians and Daniel was a prophet during the reign of king Darrius. Darius agreed on a decree which would prevent everyone from praying but Daniel could not take heed of this. As a result, he was prosecuted by being held in a den of lions. This is similar to the situation that Pontius Pilate had when he was forced to prosecute Jesus against his will.

Similitude in Elijah and Elisha. Elijah and Elisha performed miracles which are similar to those that Jesus did. Elijah fed one hundred men with only twenty loaves just as Jesus fed Five thousand men with five loaves and two fish. Elisha as well is documented to have raises a young boy which is similar to the raising the daughter of Jairo from death.
