Characteristics Of Lojong Meditation Teachers

By Sarah Gibson

Human beings face different types of challenges in life and they have different ways of getting through them. One of these ways is to seek spiritual comfort or intervention so that at the end of it they can feel at peace with themselves. Being a good Lojong Meditation teacher requires the following common characteristics which will enable one to help others spiritually.

Understanding the doctrine that one is teaching is important. One cannot teach something they are not aware of as it could mean misleading the learners. Students will also ask questions which will require you to provide them with valid answers. When a teacher can do all this, he gets respect from his learners hence the need to familiarize with the doctrine.

Religious leaders are sought after in regulating the behaviour of people in the society. Whether one is involved in guiding small children or adults, ensuring that they practice what they teach will set a good example. For instance, a teacher who tells the learners about the importance of politeness must try their best not too rude to others.

Setting goals in every activity being undertaken by an individual is a good way to instill focus in them. For instance a teacher without any goals for his learners will not even have a plan on what they are going to work on in a certain lesson. The result of this will be students who understand the doctrine in incomplete bits with some of the most crucial details being left out without their knowledge.

Teaching is a calling that is driven by the passion one has for something. Someone who wants others to understand the religion will do it not because of a reward they will receive at the end of a day but because of passions they have for the work. Doing something for money may disappoint someone as they might be required to offer voluntary guidance in some cases.

It is important the leader has a good relationship with his subjects. When a learner is close to their teacher, they feel appreciated, and they will want to do the right thing for them to make the teacher appreciate them even more. If he is too harsh on them, they may never learn anything. They will tend to give up instead and look for other options.

It is wrong to criticize what other people believe in. The leaders are involved in convincing new people to join their doctrine. While some think that criticizing other religions makes theirs look better, a big number of people feel that this is undermining other people and being narcissist. Other methods of attracting people into your stand should hence be considered to avoid this kind of misunderstanding.

One has to be patient in whatever area they are teaching. A person guiding young children will require being patient with them as they make the same mistakes from time to time. Beginners too will require a patient teacher who is ready to guide them step by step in all the areas of the doctrine without getting tired. This will help the learners to capture every detail fed to them.
