They believe that when Jesus died, the temple curtain was split into two pieces. There is also the belief of autonomy of local churches. This is to mean that local church is to be governed solely by the word of God through one leader called a pastor. There must not be a higher group that overlooks the affairs of that church to give directions. The issues of hierarchy and popes as the overall leaders are therefore rejected.
