Understanding True Baptist Churches In Chesapeake VA Teachings

By Catalina Nielsen

Baptist churches in Chesapeake VA and indeed all over the world have become so many. It is estimated that there are over one hundred different groups that claim to be a subtype of the Baptist church. Many of these churches appear to hold conflicting beliefs and even practices. It therefore becomes necessary to examine the principle distinctive features that are acceptable in these streams of churches.

First is that these churches only regard the New Testament part of the bible to be their authority in all matters that concern their faith. They argue that the idea of church only came to being after the day of Pentecost when Jesus had gone back to heaven.

They also believe that Jesus Christ is the overall head of the church. The church is considered to be a bride to Jesus who will come back to take it after some time. The bible is believed to be the only word of God and is complete with no other new ideas are acceptable for addition.

These churches also believe in salvation of their members. All members must be born again in the spiritual level through believing in the death and resurrection of Christ. They must in addition to getting saved be baptized in a pools of much waters as a way of following what Jesus did. Salvation should be an act of mouth confession in a public place. Young children are considered to be under the grace and can only get saved once they are able to understand.

Baptist churches believe on the separate existence of churches from the ruling government. They believe that the earthly government is inferior compared to the power of God. There should not be any interference or dependence of churches to the government in any way. It is however allowed that members can participate in political issues and also pray for earthly leadership do that there will be peace.

There is also a firm belief in the priesthood of every saved member. This means that any member can go boldly to church and pray without the need of involving a pastor or priest. They believe that when Jesus died, the temple curtain was split into two pieces. That was a sign that everyone is now accepted to pray directly unlike in the olden times of the bible where the priest were to mediate.

There is also the belief of autonomy of local churches. This is to mean that local church is to be governed solely by the word of God through one leader called a pastor. There must not be a higher group that overlooks the affairs of that church to give directions. The issues of hierarchy and popes as the overall leaders are therefore rejected.

It is also important to note that baptist churches in Chesapeake VA and the other sub groups must believe in the bible. They believe in both the old and the New Testament to be inspired by God. The old testament is a reflection of how God dealt with his people before Jesus had brought grace. After the grace came, forgiveness of sin is through simply believing in Jesus as opposed to offering sacrifices
