Contemplative Practices, The New Approach To Effective Learning

By Marie Turner

The basic idea behind contemplation is to create a greater deal of awareness. Contemplative Practices makes a person more conscious of the surrounding environment and thus is able to make the most of this environment. This approach has been fronted as one of the best in enhancing knowledge absorption. It creates a sense of relevance which makes learning to have a greater impact and be easier.

Through contemplation, a learner focuses more on a subject and can thus decipher greater detail. This approach makes the focus more particular or specific. This facilitates transfer of ideas without losing the basic concept. The focus is on a specific element instead of being arbitrary. This is the way to achieve a higher intellectual analysis capability which helps in problem solving. From this approach, a learner expands his perspective of life in light of the content shared.

Contemplation exercises make understanding of content easier. This happens when learners are critical about content and can transfer the context of application. Underlying issues are easy to bring forth saving such students from reciting or recycling of ideas. They use such information to generate knowledge. Retention of such information is made easier with learners becoming more creative.

Through contemplation, content is not taken blindly. They can create relationships between what is taught and their real lives. They learn to value what is learnt in class and use it in building a solid value system for their careers and learning processes. This is a way of making them excellent and valuable professionals who follow the protocol in the industry. They add value to their daily engagements in the industry.

The incorporation to contemplative exercises enhances the process and environment of learning. Each subject and individual should take a personalized approach. The exercises are primarily meant to compliment the main method and enhance content absorption. When the student is more aware of the environment, he becomes more creative and ethical in implementing the content delivered.

The basic principles under these exercises are to build communion, connection and awareness. This is in regard to content under study. Because the exercises are diverse, a tutor must identify the most effective practice or a set of them for each session. You need to customize the practice to fit both your pupils and the content being offered.

Among the most effective in a learning environment is stillness. A tutor takes his students through quieting of the mind, silence, medication and centering with special focus on the content under discussion. The students can reflect on how this content is applied in real life and ways to ensure that it delivers value or transformation to the society.

Creativity is also used as a contemplative exercise. It involves such activities as keeping of journals where ideas relating to a particular subject are discussed. This helps you identify a way of applying the ideas in real life. Students may also turn the content into expressive arts like a drawing. Other options include movement, activism and use of relational activities. The role of a tutor is to find a customized way of applying these techniques to simplify content and make it understandable.
