All About Emotional Abuse By A Psychotherapist

By Lucia Weeks

Psychotherapists are there for the sole purpose of helping those who have suffered from emotional trauma by offering treatment option like psychotherapy and others. Now there is a very big problem in the world of psychology because there are actually a lot of psychotherapists who would abuse that power and are just in the job for the money. There are actually so many cases of emotional abuse by a psychotherapist wherein the therapist may not even know.

Now one of the most common ways for patients to be emotionally abused by their therapists is for their therapists to act unprofessional. Now according to a certain code of ethics that therapists would follow, there is a strict rule about professionalism. In no circumstances should a therapist exhibit behavior that is unprofessional.

Of course there is a thing as getting too close to the patient as this kind of friendly relationship is not healthy. It is for this reason that a line must always be drawn between the patient and the therapist. If ever this line should be broken, then there might be some negative things that might happen with the patient.

Now the problem with being too close to the patient is that the therapist might actually have the tendency to open up things that are not supposed to be opened up. Of course those who are not that stable might just crack once there is a trigger that may enter their brain. So if a therapist is too close to his patient, he might accidentally say something inappropriate or say something that may pull a trigger.

Another way to emotionally abuse patients would be to be too tactless toward them. Now there is a fine line between being tactless and being professional. As a therapist, one should never say things that may sound cold toward a patient because it will just make the patient numb and not want to open up to the therapist.

Now therapists are supposed to be empathetic and are supposed to be able to empathize with what the patient is suffering from. From there, he should then create a diagnosis from the concepts that he learned while studying. From there, he will be able to provide treatment to his patient.

Of course one of the bad effects of this kind of behavior would of course lead to the condition of the patient becoming much worse. First, they will not want to open up to anyone anymore because their issues with people might become bigger. It is from there that depression might set in because they will feel like they have no where to go.

Now the psychotherapist has a very important role to play in the life of the patient because it is the therapist that would actually heal the patient. This is not a job that is purely for profit as it is a job that is more about helping people instead of getting some cash. Patients who suffer from trauma are very delicate and they are trusting the therapist to make them better. It is for this reason that therapists have to give them the proper treatment.
