By Bill Duggen

If your home or family is a great distance apart from your work then you would have to deal with the stress of having to commute. Sad to say, as the distance increases the more time you will have to sit in the bus to get to home or work. For someone who needs money to pay the bills or to make both ends meet, he or she will have to bear with this routine.

Among those that you lose when you undergo long commutes would be the good night sleep - sleep without worries and sleep with your arms and legs stretched out over the bed. Having to spend time with your family requires enough hours at work, having to use the remaining time for sleep is no longer easy if you still have to deal with a long commuting hours.

Having to undergo long commutes from work to your home is inevitable especially if you cannot afford a fast car that can take you anywhere you want to go in just a matter of minutes. What you can do is save your strength for other activities after the long commute and keep your mind and body busy and active during the process. So how exactly would you keep yourself busy during a long commute?

Book reading is among the top things that people usually do when trying to buy time during long commutes. By reading books, magazines or journals, you will be able to keep you distracted and can also gain new knowledge. At the end of your reading, you'd be surprised you're already at the bus stop.

Playing games on your phone or gadget can also be a fun and interesting way to deal with long commutes. Playing games or browsing pictures and videos on your gadget is not something that many people would do when idle but this surely is a fun thing and something worth doing during the long ride. To keep your gaming more fun and enjoyable, download games or apps related to sports or hobbies that you love to do such as basketball, drawing, serving as a waiter and others.

Looking to make money even while riding a bus home or to your work? If your English is good then you can opt for article or blog writing. The mind is usually more creative when the body is idle or when you are just sitting. Writing articles would then be beneficial for your as an outlet of your thoughts. Topics you can write about may cover a lot of things like experience in doing long commutes, how to make money, what presents to buy for your wife in your anniversary, etc. This is a good way to buy time whenever not doing anything like commuting and can even make you a great amount of money when published over the internet.

And of course, you can also do the conventional thing to do when bored in a bus ride home or to work - talk with others. As you take that long commute, you can also talk to your fellow passengers. I know this would require skill as well as enough confidence however it is actually easier than it would sound. All you need is a bit of confidence to initiate a conversation. You need to think of an interesting subject as well as a topic that both of you passengers can relate from. And again before you talk to that person beside you, check out his or her mood if he or she is in the mood for a talk.
